Rough and crazy - this is how I would describe my year.
Along with the rocky edges I've been through, I have also noticed that my taste of music expanded. If before I was so stuck with Pop and Mainstream music, 2012 found me under the roofs of different music genres. I introduced myself to Contemporary Jazz. I digged deeper into Indie Pop. I felt born again with Rock. I grown into a more serious "Country" boy. And I realized that soulful music is still the soul of my soul.
With the aid of my mobile browser, I was able to download all songs that came into my attention - those that were on Hot Billboard 100, iTunes Charts, Music Blog Updates, suggested by friends, and those that I found through serendipity. They were the products of hours I couldn't judge as wasted. I was browsing, busy downloading songs at times when I was supposed to eat, to sleep, to hang out with friends and on top of it all, when I should have been studying. Reckless, I know. But I couldn't do much about it. It's my life. Not doing it is suicide.
So here's my 12 MOST PLAYED SONGS of 2012. Not all songs in this list are released in 2012. Some of them, you might have been listening for months already too.
12. IMAGINE DRAGONS - "It's Time"
-
The band's Vocalist that effortless shouts the words of the song but is still pleasant to the ear. The country-ish instruments and the "homecoming" feel of the song. And the lyrics, of course, that speak of intrapersonal honesty. This is an anthem for love of self. No one will dislike the song at first listening.
11. KE$HA - "Crazy Kids"
It's one of the only 2 uptempo, club-banger songs that made my list. My heart of groove belongs to Kesha. Her new album warrior, I enjoy listening to it than any other album in its league. And Crazy Kids, with its whistles and hooking chorus, has been an alarm and wake up song of the last quarter of my year.
10. ELLIE GOULDING - "Anything Could Happen (Acoustic Version)"
I found it hard at first to appreciate the song. But eventually, I figured out why. Its lyrics are extremely figurative and beautifully poetic. Its "Illuminated" love story-inspired music video cemented my fondness of the song. When I heard its unplugged version, I kept playing the acoustic for over a week in my phone.
9. DAVID GUETTA feat. SIA - "Titanium"
I heard this one before but it didn't ring any musical bell. Not until Beatrice Miller sang it in Britney's Home in The X Factor. I realized that this empowering song deserves much attention. Sia's voice and David Guetta's beats make this phenomenonal!
8. ED SHEERAN - "Autumn Leaves"
Fine. Hands-down. I know that Ed is best known with his other song, The A Team. But for me, Autumn Leaves is his real crowning glory. Ed Sheeran is a musical genius. No doubt. This song, with its musicality, poetry and cuddling tune, is Ed's masterpiece.
7. ALLIE MOSS - "Corner"
I have read on the net that Ingrid Michaelson's lead guitarist is a woman who sings as well. I digged her up and realized that I like her better than Ingrid. This song, Corner, proves that less words in a song can't overweigh the greatness of its melody. Hats off Allie!
6. MAROON 5 - "Sad"
I wanna say less about this song. This is the most painful Maroon 5 song ever. This stands out in their album Overexposed. And for the first time, I appreciated Adam Levine's fragile side vocally and his sincerity.
5. CARRIE UNDERWOOD - "Blown Away"
When the dormitory hears this song playing in the hallways, everyone knows it's me playing it. I play this song everyday. I have influenced others to like this song. And they all know how attached I am to my favorite country singer.
4. BOYS LIKE GIRLS - "Be Your Everything"
It's the song of my sem break. Listening to it gives me back nostalgic feelings - those tunes that remind me of my high school. And Boys Like Girls really never fail to make some very, very good music.
3. ONE DIRECTION - "Little Things"
Never had I thought that I would be a fan of 1D. Ed Sheeran, by writing this song, pushed me to conclude that this boyband's got some serious thing going on. This is their best song to date for me. Everytime I hear this, I stop and think.
2. P!NK feat. NATE RUESS of fun. - "Just Give Me A Reason"
I went on rage on Twitter and Facebook shouting out this song's lyrics and epicness. It made me excited thinking about what product Pink and Fun. would make. And this song, with its beat, strong words, and stellar vocals. Oh, just give me a reason.
1. SARA BAREILLES - "Gravity"
I don't know what to say, really. This song is a perfection for me. This skyrocketed as my 2nd most favorite song of all times. "You hold me without touch. You keep me without chains", what a beautiful irony imbued in one of the best piano-laden ballads in history. No one can hold back the irresitible vocals of the holy Sara Bareilles.
